Problems have a way of interfering with life.
There are times in an individual’s life when you know something must change and that you cannot go on as usual.
Maybe a crisis has occurred, or you’ve experienced a major disappointment.
The usual ways of coping are no longer working.
A problem gets bigger and interferes with the ability to function in the world.
Relationships, personal care, work performance suffer.
Hoping for change isn’t working.
You wait for things to get better, but sadness, a sense of hopelessness, and energy loss engulf you. Anxious thoughts and excessive worry begin to rule your life.
People close may observe, “She is not herself,” and encourage you to reach out for help.
You have resisted taking this step. You’ve always been able to handle things on your own. But this is different.
Now, even you are frightened by your dark thoughts and apathy.
Therapy is a viable option!
Individual therapy is useful for a wide variety of issues, including depression and anxiety.
Therapy helps improve mood and functioning and reduces levels of anxiety.
Through therapy, relationships and self-esteem can improve.
Seeking individual therapy helps address the pain of abuse and allows you to gain new perspectives and understanding of yourself and others.
Past experiences need not rule your life.
Psychotherapy helps individuals understand how negative patterns in early life are affecting current relationships.
But it doesn’t stop at understanding. As a therapist, I can help you take steps to change thoughts and behaviors that sabotage your efforts by teaching you new and healthier ways of thinking and behaving.
Let’s work on those problems that are making life miserable.
In our initial session, I listen closely to understand you and the issues that cause you distress. This “listening” is a critical first step in building a safe and trusting relationship in which you feel heard, respected, and understood. You are the expert concerning your own life and experience.
As my understanding of you deepens, I will share my impressions, suggest areas for work, and remain open to your questions and truths in a nonjudgmental way.
Together, we will work on a plan that resonates with you and reflects what you hope to gain from therapy.
The approach depends on what works for you.
I draw on many therapy modes to find the elements that will be most effective in helping YOU.
Psychodynamic therapy or insight-oriented therapy can be a starting point. It centers on bringing to the forefront unconscious feelings and conflicts arising from early influences. Increased self-awareness and understanding of the past on present behavior is the goal and can be the first step in healing destructive patterns.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy combines cognitive (focuses on moods and thoughts) and behavior (emphasizes changing actions and behaviors) therapy. With this form of treatment, the basic idea is to alter thought patterns to change mood and behavior.
There is no one recipe of therapy that fits all individuals.
Each person is unique, and the issues require a unique approach.
Each person brings strengths and life experiences.
Regardless of the approach used, my goal is to use therapeutic methods that help people recognize their strengths and use those strengths in healing and change.
Let me help you overcome those problems.
